Abstract: NPs are on the national agenda with the majority of Australian States and Territories investigating the role. However there is currently no authorised NPs practising in Australia. There are individual Nurses who use the title ''Nurse Practitioner" but this is without any legislative authority. The NP Project was funded through the Health Reforms Projects Funding. Stage One of the Project was for a six-month period with the purpose of the project being: "To determine the feasibility of the Nurse/Midwife Practitioner roles and the potential benefits to be gained if the role were to be established in Territory Health Services".
