Abstract: The Commonwealth developed the Medical Specialist Outreach Assistance Program (MSOAP). The aims and objectives of the MSOAP are to improve the access of regional, rural and remote communities to specialist services, by: - increasing specialist services in areas of identified need; - facilitating visiting specialist and local health professional relationships and communication about patient care; and - increasing and maintaining skills of regional, rural and remote general practitioners and specialists. The Funds are provided to the Territory to establish and support an outreach service of a Community Physician and an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist in the Central Australian and Barkly regions.
